I received a complimentary copy of these two books in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed below are my own, period.
Prufrock Press specializes in producing curriculum for gifted, advanced, and special needs students. Our oldest daughter has always been gifted and when I saw the differentiated curriculum at Prufrock, I was excited to give it a try!
Prufrocks Differentiated Curriculum
Our 12-year-old (8th grade) daughter and I enjoyed every aspect of both the Images and Conflicts units. These books are aimed at gifted children in grades 6-8. The lessons provide 40+ hours of instructional material for you and your student(s) to explore. In the words of our daughter, “This curriculum is a blast!”
Conflicts challenges students to consider discrimination, propaganda, misrepresentation of data, and war as they discover how conflict can initiate change. Images asks students to examine their own self-image, in addition to exploring photography, literary characters, and cultural bias.
Why We Like Prufrock’s Differentiated Curriculum
- detailed lesson plans
This really is a blessing as a homeschool mother of multiple children to have the lessons already laid out for me. I also love how the lessons provide flexibility according to your child’s specific needs.
- reproducible worksheets
This is also a great resource for me so I don’t have to go and search for things to coordinate with the actual lesson plan. It saves me both time and money and adds a great deal of reinforcement to each lesson.
- teaching advanced critical thinking skills
For our 8th grade daughter, this is of utmost importance, primarily because she has already skipped one full grade and gets bored if a topic is not taught thoroughly, including critical thinking exercises.
This is such an important aspect to teaching all children, particularly gifted children. We appreciated the flow and flexibility each section had to offer. Each section was set up to give a very thorough look into each conflict/image being introduced.
