Speaking Life Into Your Homeschool {Day 3}

Speak Life Into Your Homeschool

Yesterday we talked about the importance of identifying that you have a problem with the words that you are speaking into your homeschool. If you are anything like me, this will be a lifelong journey as we seek to honor God with our mouths! Today we are going to talk about the importance of meditating on His Word {the Bible}, to help change our thoughts and heart. This important step will help us overcome the temptation to speak anything but words of life over our family and homeschool.

Meditating & Speaking His Word

The single most important thing we can do to get our mouth and the words we speak on track with God’s design for our life, is to meditate upon and speak the Word of God daily over our lives. What does that mean? It means to take a scripture {or several} with promises related to the area of your life that you are trying to overcome and speak it, pray it, and think about it all day long. Obviously you need to think about other things too, but the majority of your thoughts swirling around in your head should be filled with the Word of God on a daily basis. If this is a new concept for you, give yourself some time to get used to it. Set realistic simple goals each day to work your way up to where this becomes second nature. It will change your life!

Here is a great scripture to look at when getting ready to meditate on the Word of God (particularly in this area of our life):

“You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
{Matthew 12:34}

Ouch (again). Well, I for one, can say for sure that not everything in my heart is good – because not everything I say is good. But I know just what to do. First and foremost I need to repent and turn from my sin by confessing my sin of speaking harsh and unkind words at times over my family. The first step after repentance? Meditating on His word and confessing scripture over my family!

A great benefit you receive when you meditate and speak God’s Word is you build you faith! The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So when you are meditating on scripture – you are “hearing” the word in your thoughts. And when we confess the word out loud through confessions and prayer – you are also hearing the Word of God out loud! So either way you look at it, what we are doing is building our faith in God to believe Him for the promises in His Word – one of which is the ability to speak Word that glorify God and build up our children! Amazing, right?

What I typically do is take a list of scriptures that are related to the area of my life I am needing to build faith in and/or overcome sin in.  I will print these scriptures out and hang them in several areas of the house I am always in (kitchen, bathroom, linen closet, etc) so that I will be sure to see them. This helps keep me accountable to remember to speak, pray, and meditate on these particular scriptures. In addition to this, I take a scripture or two and personalize it for me. So friends, to show you what I mean, I put together a special printable list of scriptural confessions here: Speaking LIFE into Your Homeschool Confessional List (741) You can use these scriptures as a starting point to meditate on until we meet again tomorrow. I am counting on the fact that you will be doing this with me and we can build our journey to victory together. One. Day. At. A. Time.

Please consider sharing this post with anyone you know could benefit from what we are doing here together!
